This carefully paced 5-Day / 4-Night private adventure for 10 guests, departing from Bangkok (BKK), takes you from the ancient capital of Leh (3,524m) to the sand dunes of Nubra Valley crossed by the legendary Khardung La Pass (5,359m — one of the highest motorable roads in the world), and to the impossibly vivid blue waters of Pangong Tso Lake (4,350m) — one of the world’s most photographed landscapes, stretching 134 km from India into Tibet. A journey of altitude, adventure, monasteries, double-hump camels and eternal skies.

IMPORTANT — ALTITUDE ADVISORY: Leh city sits at 3,524 metres above sea level. Nubra Valley is at 3,048m; Khardung La Pass at 5,359m; Pangong Lake at 4,350m. Day 1: Departure — Arrival at the Roof of the World

The adventure begins in Bangkok with a connecting flight via Delhi to Leh, Ladakh — one of the most dramatic flight approaches in the world, skimming over snow-capped Himalayan peaks before descending into the high-altitude Indus Valley. The first afternoon in Leh is dedicated entirely to rest and acclimatisation — an absolute medical necessity at 3,524 metres. The magic of Ladakh reveals itself gently through the thin clear air, the ochre monasteries on hilltops, the brilliant blue sky and the extraordinary quality of silence.

  • Group assembly at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) — Prime Value Tours coordinator meets all 10 guests; group check-in, baggage assistance, pre-departure health and safety briefing on altitude precautions
  • Distribution of altitude advisory kit: acclimatisation guidelines, emergency contacts, Diamox/medication reminder checklist
  • Flight: Bangkok (BKK) to Delhi (DEL) via IndiGo / Air India (approx. 3.5–4 hrs); coordinator assists at Delhi transit
  • Connecting flight: Delhi (DEL) to Leh (IXL) — the spectacular Himalayan flight; window seat views of the world’s greatest mountain range; approx. 1 hr 15 mins
  • Arrival Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh (3,524m) — one of the world’s highest commercial airports; local guide and driver meet group
  • Private SUV transfer to hotel — slow, comfortable drive to allow initial acclimatisation; guide explains altitude protocol
  • Check-in: The Grand Dragon Hotel / Ladakh Residency / Hotel Shambhala (3–4 Star, Leh) — all rooms with heating
  • MANDATORY REST & ACCLIMATISATION — afternoon: complete rest in rooms; no physical exertion; drink minimum 3–4 litres of water; avoid alcohol; light snacks only; nap recommended
  • Light acclimatisation walk (1.5 hrs, guide-led, flat ground only) — gentle stroll through Leh Bazaar; observe the colourful market, prayer wheels, mani walls, and local Ladakhi daily life; breathing exercises and pulse-ox monitoring
  • Shanti Stupa (evening, optional gentle climb if guests feel well-acclimatised) — the Japanese-built white peace stupa on a hilltop above Leh; spectacular sunset panorama over the Indus Valley and surrounding Himalayan peaks
  • Leh Palace — exterior view only on Day 1; the 17th-century 9-storey royal palace (modelled on the Potala in Lhasa) illuminated against the night sky
  • Welcome dinner at hotel — Ladakhi specialties: thukpa (noodle soup), momos (dumplings), skyu (pasta stew), butter tea; guide’s full briefing on Days 2–5 and mountain road safety protocols

Meals: Dinner | Accommodation: The Grand Dragon Leh / Ladakh Residency / Hotel Shambhala, Leh (3,524m)

The most exhilarating drive of the tour — climbing over Khardung La Pass (5,359m), one of the highest motorable roads on earth, with views of 6,000m snow peaks stretching in every direction. Descending north into the hidden Nubra Valley — a dramatic cold desert carved by the Shyok and Nubra rivers — the landscape transforms from barren moonscape to lush river oasis dotted with apricot orchards. The day culminates with the surreal experience of riding double-hump Bactrian camels through sand dunes under a vast Himalayan sky at Hunder village.

  • Early breakfast (6:30 AM) and departure by 7:30 AM — guides check all guests’ health; pulse-ox readings recorded
  • Drive Leh to Khardung La (38 km, approx. 1.5 hrs) — steady winding ascent through rocky terrain; guide narrates the history of the ancient Silk Road trade route
  • KHARDUNG LA PASS — 5,359 METRES: brief stop (15–20 mins only — altitude, cold and thin air; do not exert) — magnificent panoramic views of the Ladakh Range and Karakoram; prayer flags everywhere; group photograph at the pass signboard
  • Note: Supplemental oxygen available for anyone feeling the altitude; guide monitors all group members closely at the pass
  • Descent into North Pullu and the upper Nubra Valley — spectacular narrow switchback roads carved into vertical cliff faces; views of the Siachen Glacier massif to the north
  • Arrival Diskit Village (3,048m) — the main settlement of Nubra Valley
  • Diskit Monastery (Deskit Gompa) — the oldest and largest monastery in Nubra Valley (14th century CE, Gelug Buddhist school); the giant 32-metre Maitreya Buddha statue (Future Buddha) overlooking the valley; prayer hall with ancient thangkas and ritual instruments
  • Check-in: Desert Winds Camp / The Nubra Ethnic Camp / Hunder Resort — luxury tents or eco-camp at Hunder (4-Star standard)
  • Hunder Sand Dunes — the extraordinary cold-desert sand dunes of Nubra, flanked on all sides by snow-capped Himalayan peaks (a geographical impossibility that delights every visitor)
  • Double-Hump Bactrian Camel Safari — ride the rare double-hump Bactrian camels through the dunes; these camels were used on the ancient Silk Road trade route through this very valley; 30–45 minute group camel ride at golden hour
  • Sunset over Nubra Valley — dramatic light on the sand dunes and snow peaks simultaneously; photography golden hour
  • Dinner at camp — barbecue under the stars in the crisp Himalayan night air; campfire; guide’s dharma talk on Ladakhi culture, the Silk Road and the last nomads of Nubra

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner | Accommodation: Desert Winds Camp / The Nubra Ethnic Camp / Hunder Resort, Nubra

Today delivers Ladakh’s most iconic image — Pangong Tso Lake, stretching 134 km from India into Tibet at 4,350 metres altitude, its water shifting from sapphire to turquoise to emerald as the light changes through the day. The drive from Nubra traverses the remote Shyok Valley route, past ancient villages and the confluence of the Shyok and Nubra rivers. The return journey crosses Chang La Pass (5,360m) — virtually equal in altitude to Khardung La — back down to Leh for the final night.

  • Early breakfast at camp (6:30 AM) — camp staff pack lunches for the long journey day
  • Check-out from Nubra camp; group pulse-ox check before departure
  • Drive Nubra to Pangong Tso via Shyok Valley (approx. 160 km, 4–5 hrs) — one of Ladakh’s most scenic drives: the spectacular Shyok Valley road running alongside the turquoise Shyok River through remote Ladakhi villages
  • Agham and Shyok Village — charming traditional Ladakhi villages with whitewashed houses, apricot trees, mani walls and prayer wheels; brief photo stop
  • Durbuk — the small administrative centre of the Pangong region; military checkpost (Inner Line Permit check — Prime Value Tours arranges all permits)
  • PANGONG TSO LAKE — 4,350 METRES: arrival at India’s most photogenic location — the 134-km-long brackish Himalayan lake shared between India and Tibet; the incredible shifting colour palette of the water (deep blue in morning, turquoise at noon, silver at sunset) against barren ochre mountains
  • Free time at Pangong: photography, lakeside walk, meditation; guide identifies the mountain ranges visible on both sides
  • Lunch at lakeside (packed or at a Pangong dhaba)
  • Merak Village — a small nomadic Changpa encampment at the lakeshore; meet the semi-nomadic herders and their pashmina goat herds
  • Famous 3 Idiots filming location and the now-iconic yellow chair scene location — beloved by Bollywood fans
  • Drive Pangong to Leh via Chang La Pass (5,360m, approx. 4.5–5 hrs) — ascending the second of Ladakh’s great high passes; brief stop at the top; descent through Durbuk and Karu
  • Arrival Leh by evening — check-in at hotel
  • Dinner at hotel — rest and recovery after the long day; guide’s briefing on tomorrow’s monastery circuit

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Accommodation: The Grand Dragon Leh / Ladakh Residency, Leh (3,524m)

A full day dedicated to the extraordinary Buddhist heritage of the Indus Valley — the monasteries, palaces, stupas and sacred landscapes that have shaped Ladakhi civilisation for over a thousand years. Perched on impossibly dramatic hilltops, painted vivid red and white, Thiksey and Hemis Monasteries are among the finest Tibetan Buddhist architectural monuments outside Tibet itself. The day also includes the famous natural phenomena of the Magnetic Hill and the sacred confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers — one of India’s most dramatic river landscapes.

  • Hotel breakfast (7:30 AM) — health check; today is the most comfortable day in terms of altitude and activity
  • Hall of Fame Museum — the Indian Army’s tribute to the soldiers who fought in the Siachen and Kargil conflicts; fascinating exhibits on Ladakhi history, military maps, high-altitude warfare equipment and bravery awards
  • Thiksey Monastery (Thikse Gompa) — the most photographed monastery in Ladakh; 12-storey complex resembling the Potala Palace in Lhasa; houses a remarkable 15-metre Maitreya Buddha statue (the largest in Ladakh); monks’ quarters, assembly hall with ancient thangkas, butter lamps and ritual musical instruments; spectacular views of the Indus Valley from the rooftop
  • Hemis Monastery — the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh, founded in 1672 by Staktsang Raspa; double-storey temple with gold-topped towers and gilded statues; museum of Buddhist art, ancient manuscripts and the legendary 6-metre-high Hemis thangka (displayed every 12 years); peaceful monastery courtyard and chanting sessions (if timing permits)
  • Sindhu Ghat (Indus River bank) — a peaceful spot to sit by the sacred Indus River; guide narrates the ancient civilisations that arose along these banks 4,000 years ago
  • Shanti Stupa — the gleaming white Japanese-built peace stupa on a hilltop above Leh; circumambulation; spectacular 360-degree panorama of the entire Leh valley at golden hour
  • Confluence of Indus and Zanskar Rivers — extraordinary visual spectacle of two rivers with completely different colours (blue-green Zanskar and brown Indus) meeting and flowing side by side for kilometres without fully mixing; one of Ladakh’s most memorable natural phenomena
  • Magnetic Hill — Ladakh’s famous optical illusion: vehicles placed on a designated stretch of road appear to roll uphill against gravity (actually a visual trick of the surrounding terrain); a fun group experience
  • Gurudwara Pathar Sahib — a beautiful and important Sikh shrine built around a sacred rock associated with Guru Nanak’s visit to Ladakh; flowers, langar (community kitchen)
  • Leh Palace — magnificent 9-storey 17th-century royal palace of the Namgyal dynasty; royal apartments, royal chapel, ancient thangkas; panoramic terrace views over Leh and the surrounding valleys
  • Namgyal Tsemo Monastery & Gompa — 16th-century monastery above Leh Palace; three-storey Maitreya Temple; golden Buddha statue; the oldest painted images in Leh
  • Leh Main Bazaar — the vibrant central market: Tibetan jewellery, pashmina shawls, thangkas, prayer wheels, singing bowls, turquoise and coral ornaments, Ladakhi dried apricots and walnuts
  • Farewell dinner at hotel or Bon Appetit restaurant — celebration of the Ladakh adventure; guide’s closing talk; merit dedication and tour certificate presentation

Every guest returns home with an experience that truly defies description — the clean altitude light, the eternal blue skies and the profound peace of the high mountains.

Important Travel Information

Category Details
Altitude This is a HIGH-ALTITUDE journey (3,524m–5,359m). Rest completely on Day 1. Drink 3–4 litres of water daily. Avoid alcohol and sleeping pills for the first 48 hrs. Carry Diamox (prescribed by your doctor). Symptoms of AMS (headache, nausea, dizziness) are normal Day 1 — rest resolves them. If symptoms worsen, Prime Value Tours will arrange immediate descent.
Best Season Ladakh is open June to September only. July–August is the peak season — roads open, festivals active, highest temperatures (20–30°C day, 5–10°C night). June and September are cooler and quieter. Ladakh roads are completely snowbound October to May — the tour cannot operate outside the June–September window.
Clothing Layer clothing is essential — temperatures vary dramatically. Pack: warm fleece/down jacket, thermal inner layers, sunscreen (SPF 50+), UV-protection sunglasses, hat and gloves (Khardung La and Chang La are sub-zero even in summer). Light cotton layers for Leh daytime (25°C).
Visa Indian e-Tourist Visa required — apply at indianvisaonline.gov.in 4–5 days before travel. Single-entry sufficient. An Inner Line Permit (ILP) is required for Nubra Valley and Pangong Lake — Prime Value Tours arranges all ILPs on your behalf.
Health Medical consultation 4–6 weeks before travel is essential. Discuss Diamox prescription with your doctor. NOT recommended for: guests with severe heart conditions, uncontrolled blood pressure, severe asthma or lung disease. Nearest hospital: SNM Hospital, Leh (emergency oxygen and hyperbaric chamber available).
Currency Indian Rupee (INR). ATMs in Leh Bazaar — withdraw before going to Nubra or Pangong (no ATMs). Exchange Thai Baht at Delhi or Leh Airport. Leh hotels accept credit cards; camp and monastery shops cash only. Carry INR 3,000–5,000 per person for tips, shopping and incidentals.
Connectivity Mobile signal is patchy in Nubra and absent at Pangong. BSNL is the only network that works in remote Ladakh areas. Hotel Wi-Fi available in Leh. Prime Value Tours WhatsApp/LINE group coordinates all logistics. Inform family/friends of limited connectivity days in advance.
Photography Ladakh is a photographer’s paradise. Pack extra memory cards and batteries — cold temperatures drain batteries rapidly. The Pangong Lake sunrise is the most iconic shot (5:30–6:30 AM). Monasteries: always ask before photographing monks or interior shrines. Drone operation requires special permit — not included in this tour.
